The Marquette Redettes(47) Basketball Team Does Battle With the Traversse City Central Trojan(40) in District 12 Finals
- Updated: March 3, 2017
Marquette, MI – March 3rd, 2017 – The Marquette Redettes faced the Traverse City Central Trojans in the District 12 Finals. The highly-anticipated game started with the Redettes scoring first on a long three point shot. Marquette’s offense was on fire and led 8-0 in the midway through the first, and they looked unstoppable. Just over a minute later, the score was 11-0, and the Redettes’ run continued. TC Central fought back, going on a 9-0 run of their own, which only ended one minute before the end of the first. The Redettes recovered slightly, and they held the lead going into the second.
First Quarter Score
Marquette Redettes: 18
TC Central Trojans: 9
After a strong first quarter, the Marquette Redettes had their sight set on the District Champion’s trophy, which would be awarded to the game’s winner. The success from the first quarter trickled over to the second for Marquette, but less and less of their shots fell in the basket. With three minutes left in the half, it was 27-16, and the Trojans began to approach foul trouble. As the final minute of play ticked off the clock, the Trojans made a last second run at the basket, but were unable to gain on the Redettes.
First Quarter Score
Marquette Redettes: 29
TC Central Trojans: 18
With the win in their sights, the Marquette Redettes only had to win two more quarters of basketball in order to take home the trophy. Halftime was a needed break for the Trojans, and they used their newfound energy to make the score 29-22, with a third of the quarter gone. The action in the third was much more closely contested, and the game didn’t look so certain for the Redettes as in the first half. With just under three minutes left in the third, the score was 30-24, and the defense for both sides came alive. Marquette’s shooting was falling apart as they felt the Trojans shrinking their lead, and with just seconds left in the quarter, the Redettes’ lead was only three points.
First Quarter Score
Marquette Redettes: 34
TC Central Trojans: 28
Everything seemed to be going well for the Marquette Redettes in the first half, but their offense stalled in the third, ensuring the game would come down to the fourth. Only a minute into the final quarter, the Redettes increased their lead to eight points. As the last quarter passed it’s midway mark, the Redettes and the Trojans were swapping point for point, and TC Central began using fouls as timeouts, but even that wasn’t enough to bring them back into the lead. With one minute left in the game, it was 41-35, and the Trojans continued to foul in order to stop the Redettes’ strong offense.
