Marquette, MI – January 9th, 2026 – Marquette headed downstate in search of a bounce-back performance and found exactly that against elite competition at the T.C. North/South Showcase. Coming off a tough 3–2 loss to Jeffers earlier in the week, the Sentinels answered with a balanced offensive attack and timely special-teams play to secure a 6–4 victory.
Trey Savola jump-started the offense early, opening the scoring just 2:31 into the game. He struck again late in the first period, backhanding home his second goal off assists from Jack Pond and Colton Hartz to give Marquette a 2–0 advantage at the first intermission.
The Sentinels added to the lead early in the second period when Seth Sandstrom found the back of the net, but Trenton responded with a power-play goal from Grandon Echols and later pulled within one. Marquette regained control on a 2-on-1 rush, with Hartz finishing the play and Savola earning the assist, sending the Sentinels into the locker room up 4–2.
Marquette extended the lead to 5–2 with a power-play goal in the third, but Trenton refused to go away, scoring twice—including another man-advantage tally from Echols—to close the gap to one. The Sentinels closed the door late, adding an insurance goal to seal a hard-fought 6–4 win. Unfortunately due to technical difficulties we were unable to access the recording for this game.
Marquette returns to the ice tomorrow morning to close out the T.C. Showcase against Livonia Stevenson. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., with live coverage on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9.
