Sault Ste. Marie, MI – December 6, 2025 — After last night’s huge shutout win over Sault Ste. Marie, the Marquette High School Hockey Sentinels came into the Big Bear Ice Arena hoping to carry that same fire into today’s matchup against the Byron Center Bulldogs. Fans tuning in on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9 got every intense moment delivered by Joe Gaffaney and Coach Larry Carey live from the rink.
The Sentinels came out ready to work, but despite one of their strongest early shifts, it was unfortunately Byron Center who struck first. Marquette struggled to get shots on net throughout the opening period, but they didn’t let the Bulldogs pull away any further.
Early in the second, Byron Center extended their lead to 2–0, and the momentum stayed in their favor. The Sentinels pushed back, but every attempt to break through was shut down by the Bulldogs’ locked-in goalie.
The third period opened with another tough blow for Marquette. Just 46 seconds in, Chase Vanderwoude buried a shot for Byron Center off a feed from Dylan Kamminga, putting the Bulldogs up 3–0. Marquette kept fighting, getting shots but are unable to get that finishing touch to sink a puck into the net. Byron Center continued to control the net and the pace, and with under 15 minutes left, they added a rebound goal past Marquette goalie Cole Kelly, extending their lead to 4–0.
But the Sentinels never quit.
With under two minutes left in the game, Brody Sheldon finally broke through, sinking one for Marquette with assists from Sandstrom and Pond. Sheldon nearly got another one right after, but time ran out before the Sentinels could close the gap.
FINAL: Marquette 1 – 4 Byron Center
Not the result the Sentinels hoped for this weekend, but plenty to build on as they head back home and reset for next week.
