Another Win In the Books for the Marquette Redmen Basketball Team – Marquette Redmen (67) VS Escanaba Eskymos (57) on 97.5 GTO 2/9/2017

Escanaba, Michigan – February 9th, 2017 – The Marquette Redmen made the long trek to Escanaba on Thursday night to battle the Eskymos on Good Time Oldies 97.5 GTO. The Redmen defeated the Eskymos 67-57 Thursday night. It was a trip that was well worth the drive for the Redmen. The wind off of Lake Michigan was cold and brisk in downtown Escanaba.
First quarter under way with the Marquette Redmen trailing the Escanaba Eskymos 2-0. Escanaba was in a bit of a zone. 6-2 with the Escanaba Eskymos in the lead over the Marquette Redmen. Jerrod Nash checks in for the Escanaba Eskymos. A nice play by Ian Ogea down low and the Redmen get their first lead in the game, 9-6. Coach Nelson was really upset about a call made in the first quarter. Redmen with the lead 9-8 over the Escanaba Eskymos. Escanaba was giving Marquette some trouble. 20-10 was the score at the end of the first quarter with the Redmen in the lead over the Eskymos.
Second quarter action underway from Escanaba with a lead in favor of the Redmen, 20-10. A traveling violation called against the Eskymos gives the ball back to Marquette. The Marquette Redmen scored 2 points in what could have been described as a “disaster” of a quarter. 24-20 was the score with the Redmen in the lead making it a 4 point game. A nice defensive play made it a 8 point game, 30-22. With 66 ticks to go Coach Nelson wasn’t pleased by the second quarter. The first half closes with the Redmen in the lead over the Eskymos, 31-24.
31-25 was the score early in the second half in favor of the Redmen. 38-32 game with the Redmen maintaining a healthy lead over the Escanaba Eskymos. 43-35 with an 8 point lead for Marquette with 2:38 left to go in the third quarter. If you’re Marquette, you’d definitely be happy to come away with a win! Thankfully Marquette has the depth that it has. 45-37 wraps up the third quarter with your Marquette Redmen in the lead over the Escanaba Eskymos.
The Marquette Redmen have done just enough to stay ahead of the game. An Escanaba player went to the pile after the whistle. A traveling violation is called with 5:18 left to go in the fourth quarter. 2 players from Marquette had 4 fouls. Escanaba had 1 more foul to give. Tyler Willet led the Escanaba Eskymos in points. Escanaba had the chance to tie or take the lead. The game then goes into a 4 minute overtime in the fourth quarter as both teams were tied up! 62-57 as the Redmen get back on top over the Eskymos. This was the second overtime game of the year for the Redmen.
