Marquette, MI – February 9th, 2017 – The Marquette Redmen were up against another tough opponent in the Hancock Bulldogs at the Lakeview Arena. Hancock got onto the scoreboard first on a strange play where the Redmen stopped playing too early after a stopped shot popped out of the goalie’s pads. Hancock scored their second goal of the game after a Bulldogs player behind the Marquette net fed another Bulldog for a quick wrist shot. The Redmen got a chance to make up some ground when Hancock was called for a penalty late in the first, but Marquette was unable to make anything happen. Just a bit before the end of the first, the Bulldogs put their third goal of the game in the net, increasing their lead once again.First Period Score

It was a tough start to the game for the Marquette Redmen, but they were determined to retake the lead. The first part of the period saw multiple penalties for the Redmen, but it wouldn’t be until after the halfway point of the period that another goal was scored for the Bulldogs, making it 0-4. Just seconds after they scored their fourth goal, Hancock was put back on the power play when Marquette was called for a knee-on-knee contact penalty. As the final minute of the period fell off the clock, the Redmen were unable to generate any good scoring chances.

Going into the final period of play, the Marquette Redmen were still trailing going into the final period. Just :52 seconds into the third, Hancock put their fifth goal of the game onto the scoreboard. Marquette did their best to stop the powerful Bulldogs’ offense, but another even-strength goal put Hancock ahead 0-6 midway through the third. There were a few rays of hope for the Redmen as the final period advanced, but it appeared that the Bulldogs would be to tough to overcome. At the time of the final buzzer, the score was 0-6.
