Chelsea, MI – January 27th, 2017 – The Marquette Redmen had a tough game ahead of them with the Chelsea Bulldogs, but they started the game off right when at just 1:35 into the first period, they scored their first goal. Just a few minutes later, they scored again, bringing the score to 2-0. The play got a bit rough as the clock ticked down, but eventually, the Bulldogs found their sticks. They put their first goal of the game in the net with three minutes remaining in the period. With the game separated by just one goal, it would go to the second period with the Marquette Redmen with the lead.

The first period was extremely close between the Marquette Redmen and the Chelsea Bulldogs, but Marquette looked to extend their lead as the puck dropped. Both team were fighting hard to put the puck in the net, but the Redmen were having trouble on the power play. Each time Marquette went up a man, they were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. With three minutes left in the second period, it was still a back and forth game, with neither team having any excellent scoring chances. The teams would skate into the second intermission with no further scoring.

Things seemed to be going well for the Marquette Redmen, and going into the final period, they held a narrow lead. The Bulldogs won the opening puck drop, but Marquette stole the puck and quickly went on offense. Chelsea tied the game at 2-2 just minutes into the third. Finally, the Redmen added another goal to their total from Tanner Phillips, his fifth goal of the year. Less than one minute later, the Bulldogs again tied the score at 3-3. The Marquette Redmen successfully killed a penalty in the final minutes of the game, but due to the nature of the tournament, the game would end in a tie.
