Chelsea, MI- January 26th, 2017- For the first half of the first period there was a lot of dump and chase for both teams. There were not many shots on net but with their third shot of the game Saline takes a 1-0 lead. It was a hard blast from the point that was redirected on it’s way to the back of the net. for a period that the Hornets were winning time on attack, the Redmen were ablet ot get a goal themselves from Joe Phillips on a great centering pass from Hunter Doucette.
First period score:
Marquette- 1
Saline- 1
It seemed that goal had brought some extra juice for the Redmen in the second period as they came out of the locker room with great pace. Marquette had three scoring chances right out of the gate but could not capitalize due to great goaltending. The Redmen were able to draw a penalty but were unable to score on the power play. In a period that was dominated by Marquette, Saline took advantage of a defensive miscue and take a 2-1 lead with 11 seconds left in the period.
Second period score:
Marquette- 1
Saline- 2
Marquette decided shuffling some lines to start the third period to try and get more offense. It seemed that these changes paid off as the entire third period the was spent in Saline’s zone. All period long the Redmen created scoring chance after scoring chance but it wasn’t till late in the period with 3:30 left that they final put one in the back of the net. Another pass from Doucette to Phillips to tie the game. Marquette just wouldn’t quit as they added the game winning goal with less than two minutes to play. This time it was a pass from Joe Phillips to Hunter Doucette to seal this one.
