Marquette, MI- January 23rd, 2017- I know the score wouldn’t reflect this but it was quite a ball game tonight. Until the fourth quarter, this was a defensive game where both teams struggled offensively. Luckily the team who got hot in the fourth quarter was the Marquette Redettes.
The first quarter did not start the way the Redettes would have liked, as the Escanaba Eskymos got out to a 5-0 lead. I think that giving up the first five points right out of the gate woke up Marquette as they would score the next nine to take the lead. Redettes led after one quarter 11-9.
Marquette wouldn’t give up the lead at any point this game but the Eskymos would never quit. There wouldn’t be much scoring in the quarter as the teams didn’t run a lot and played tight defense. The Redettes would outscore Escanaba 11-6 in the quarter and lead going into the half 21-15.
The third quarter would be the only quarter where Marquette would be outscored. This was the slowest quarter of the game as no one scored the first three minutes of the quarter. After that no team would score double digits as the Eskymos would outscore the Redettes 7-6 but would still trail 27-22 going into the final quarter.
This is where Marquette would separate themselves in this one. In the fourth quarter they final put their foot on the gas pedal and raddled off 23 points. The defense for the Redettes never quit either holding Escanaba to only seven points in the quarter. The Marquette Redettes win this one 50-29.
