Game Two of The Sault Showcase: The Marquette Redmen 4 Take on the Canton Chiefs 2 on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9FM
- Updated: January 21, 2017
Sault Ste. Marie, MI – January 21st, 2017 – Coming off of a tough loss the night before to the Brother Rice Warriors, the Marquette Redmen were facing the Canton Chiefs. The Chiefs were having a tough season so far, but it would still be a tough game for Marquette. The Chiefs got onto the scoreboard first, but just a minute later the Redmen tied the game at 1-1. The scoring barrage continued as Canton added another goal total. Marquette was having lots of trouble with turnovers, and that resulted in their scoring deficit at the end of the period.
First Period Score
Marquette Redmen: 1
Canton Chiefs: 2
It was not a very strong first period for the Marquette Redmen, and they looked to get some momentum going. The Redmen’s coach could again be heard yelling and encouraging his players, and Marquette was beginning to get more shots on goal. Finally, the Redmen tied the game back up at 2-2 on a Joe Phillips goal. The Chief’s defense was beginning to crumble, and Marquette was doing everything they could to take their first lead of the game. With roughly five minutes left in the period Elliot S. was able to give the Redmen their first lead of the game of 3-2. Neither team could find the back of the net before the buzzer.
Second Period Score
Marquette Redmen: 3
Canton Chiefs: 2
Right out of the gate in the third, Marquette was able to tack on another to their lead 4-2, thanks to Ryan Baldwin on a nice pass from Gaffney. The rest of the period was spent playing a lot of possession and defense. Making sure that all skaters were in the correct lanes to block shots or passing lanes. Except when the Redmen gave the Chiefs a 5 on3 power play for 40 seconds. Luckily the penalty kill team was up to the task and able to keep Canton from getting the puck in the net. The Marquette Redmen would win 4-2.
Final Game Score
Marquette Redmen: 4
Canton Chiefs: 2
