Marquette Redmen JV Basketball Team Defeats Houghton Gremlins In Futures Game 74-28
- Updated: March 2, 2017

Houghton, MI- March 2, 2017- It was a change of pace tonight as we would see a doubleheader between the Marquette Redmen and the Houghton Gremlins. To start off the night we would have the Futures Game, that would feature the JV teams for both schools.
It was off to the races for the JV Redmen as they would dominate the first quarter of play in this game. Marquette would be able to outplay the Gremlins both offensively and defensively. The Redmen were able to put up 15 points as the defense was able to hold Houghton to one 3-point basket. Marquette led heading into the second 15-3.
The second quarter would not be as easy for the Redmen. They seemed to struggle after Houghton adjusted and were able to implement their 2-3 zone defense. That seemed to help the Gremlins offensively as they were able to go on a 6-0 run during the frame. Both teams would add 11 to their point totals but it was Marquette still with a big lead up 26-14 heading in to the half.
The Redmen seemed to make some great adjustments during the break at the half as Marquette was able to dominate the third quarter. Offensively the Redmen were able to figure out how to beat that 2-3 zone they seemed to struggle with in the second quarter. Marquette would hold the Gremlins to only three baskets in the quarter and increase their lead to 52-20 heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter would be no different for the Redmen as they were able to force a running clock as they would get to a 40 or more point lead. Marquette would add another 22 points in the quarter while holding the Houghton to only three more baskets in the quarter. Marquette defeats the Gremlins 74-28.
