Marquette Redmen Hockey Team Falls To The Calumet Copper Kings 3-0

Facebook

Calumet, MI- February 23, 2017- It was not a great start for the Marquette Redmen hockey team, as within the first five minutes or so they would give up the first goal of the game to the Calumet Copper Kings. They were lucky to get great goal-tending otherwise Calumet could have added a couple more. The goal seemed to wake up Marquette as the had a little more gas in the tank for the rest of the period. Unfortunately the Redmen were unable to add a goal for themselves before the period’s end.

First Period Score:

Marquette- 0

Calumet- 1

The start of the second period wasn’t much better for Marquette as they seemed to rush their break outs and fall behind. The Redmen would give the Copper Kings potent power play a third chance, and it will go down as a full strength goal as the penalty time had just expire, Calumet was able to add another. It was a soft shot thrown through a ton of traffic and was able to find it’s way to the back of the net. Though Marquette carried most the play of the rest of the time, they would finish 0 for 3 on the power play and down two goals after two periods of play.

Second Period Score:

Marquette- 0

Calumet- 2

As the Redmen continued to carry the play into the third, they suffered a five minute boarding penalty at a very inopportune time. And the Copper King’s power play was able to cash in one on a beautiful forehand to backhand play just over a minute into the penalty. The box score won’t tell you this but beside the first five minutes of this game the Redmen played well. They simply gave up too many power plays to a Calumet team that has been converting 35% on the season.

Final Score:

Marquette- 0

Calumet- 3
