Escanaba, Michigan – January 31st, 2017 – Wrapping up an exciting month of January–the Marquette Redettes got their first lead in the game late in the first quarter over the Eskymos on Tuesday night as they faced the fierce Escanaba Eskymos from Escanaba Area High School. Luke Ghiardi brought you the call. The Redettes defeated the Eskymos 51-46 on Tuesday night. The Redettes rejoiced with a victory from Escanaba to wrap up January.
With 1 minute remaining in the first quarter there was a great play by Madelyn Theut of the Eskymos and the ball went back to the Redettes. 20-14 was the score with 20 seconds left in the first quarter. The Redettes were in the lead over the Eskymos. Marquette didn’t have enough time to get a shot up, and the quarter wrapped up with the Redettes in the lead, 20-14.
Luke Ghiardi said “A great first quarter by the Redettes!” Halfway through the second quarter Marquette leads Escanaba 37-14. Ellie Hicks checked in for Chlaudia Hale of the Redettes. Escanaba had the ball, and Marquette maintained their lead 37-16. A foul was called and went against Hannah Bulinski. The lead was cut to 15 points for Marquette Redettes over the Escanaba Eskymos, 37-22. The buzzer sounds and the Redettes lead the Eskymos 37-22 going into the Pomp’s Tire halftime show.
Third quarter from Escanaba High School the Redettes suddenly find themselves with a narrower lead over the Eskymos, 37-30. Marquette’s first points come in the second quarter with a lead of 38-30 over the Eskymos. 43-38 was the score at the end of the third quarter with the Redettes in the lead over the Eskymos.
With under 4 minutes left in the game the Redettes lead the Eskymos 46-42. A full time out was called by the Eskymos in the fourth quarter. 48-42 Marquette in the lead over Escanaba. Amber Huebner was guarded very closely by Taylor Gauthier. Head Coach Ben Smith called a time out with 1:04 left in the game! 30 seconds remaining with Marquette over Escanaba, 49-44. The clock ran out and that was the game! Marquette ended up taking a tough win, 51-46 over the Escanaba Eskymos.
