Marquette, MI – October 21th, 2025 – The Wildcats traveled to Chicago this past weekend to face off against Roosevelt. Last year, Northern Michigan and Roosevelt played an exciting contest that turned out to be one of their best performances in a long time. Unfortunately, they lost in overtime, 16-10. The Wildcats had different plans this time around.
In their previous game, the Wildcats hosted the number four team in the country, Grand Valley State, and managed to keep it close at halftime, with the score tied at 7. However, they were unable to maintain that momentum in the second half. The Wildcats hoped to build on this performance as they prepared for their next game against Roosevelt.
The game began with Jahi Wood scoring on a 36-yard run, putting the Wildcats up 7-0. On the next drive, Austin Ridl made the longest play of the day, running 67 yards to score and extend the lead to 14-7. Noah Dobert then reached the end zone with a 10-yard run. The Wildcats went into halftime with a comfortable lead of 21-7.
The Wildcats wasted no time coming out of halftime as Jahi Wood found the end zone for the second time on a 44-yard run, making the score 28-7. In the fourth quarter, Roosevelt made a final push, narrowing the score to (28-21). Noah Dobert wasn’t going to give up that easily and completed the hat trick by scoring twice late in the game. Securing Northern Michigan’s first win in over two and a half years by defeating Roosevelt 42-21.
After 1,071 days, NMU and coach Shane Richardson ended the losing streak. They will now focus on breaking their 15-game home losing streak this weekend when they host their rival, Michigan Tech University, aiming to earn their first win against the Huskies since 2009. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the Superior Dome.
