Marquette MI, – September 4th, 2025 – After a successful opening week, the mediaBrew teams are back in action this week. If you’re interested in attending a game in person, Marquette is hosting its home opener. Meanwhile, both Ishpeming and Negaunee will be playing on the road. The Miners aim to build on their recent success after a strong victory, where they reclaimed the Diamond Jubilee Trophy. Ishpeming, on the other hand, is seeking its first win of the season, but it will face a tough challenge on the road against the defending Division Two eight-player champions, Crystal Falls Forest Park.
We’ll begin in Marquette, as they prepare to host Alpena for their season opener. After suffering a hard-fought loss to the Negaunee Miners 30-22, the Sentinels are looking to get into the win column. Alpena will be looking to do the same, as they also lost their season opener at Boyne City 18-13. You can catch this game tomorrow at William R. Hart Stadium, set to kick off at 7:00 pm.
Ishpeming will be traveling to Forest Park this week for their game. Last week, the Hematites fell short, losing to Ontonagon with a score of 21-14. This weekend, before and after the game, they will honor the 1975 state championship football teams from both Ishpeming and Forest Park. The teams will compete for the M&M Trophy, named after the head coaches of both state championship teams.
Finally, the Miners look to remain undefeated under new head coach Jeff Niemi. Last week, the Miners picked up a great win vs the Marquette Sentinels (30-22). Evan DellAngelo put his name on the map after scoring two touchdowns, including a kickoff return. The Miners will be on the road this week, heading to Gladstone to face the Braves. Gladstone looks to get a win in their home opener after coming up short against Durand in week one (28-22).
If you’re unable to attend any of these games, they will all be broadcast on our stations. You can tune in to Ishpeming on 98.3 WRUP, where Tyler Young and Bob Nadeau will be calling the game. For Marquette, the coverage is available on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 or 99.9, with Michael Williams providing the commentary. Finally, Carl Leander Johnston and Brad Saatio will have Miners football on Sunny 101.9.
