Redmen Hoops Season Ends After 67-54 Loss To Northmen
- Updated: March 9, 2022

Petoskey, MI – March 9th, 2022 – The Marquette Redmen boys basketball team began tournament play this evening with a contest against the Petoskey Northmen. The game was broadcasted on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
1Q: The Redmen began the game with a winning tip and a bucket, just :15 seconds in. Quickly after, the Northmen of Petoskey scored nine straight to take a seven point lead. David Eberhard ended the run for the Northmen with a deep two, but Petoskey nailed a triple to take an eight point lead with just under 4:15 remaining in the quarter. The Northmen continued to have a fantastic quarter, as the Redmen turned the ball over several times in the final minutes of the quarter, after the first eight minutes of play, Petoskey led 24-8.

Captains
2Q: Wyatt Lakenen gave Marquette two quick points out of the quarter as he was able to force a turnover and take the ball coast to coast for a bucket. Marquette trailed by fourteen as they needed to take care of the basketball and play a little more defense on the other end to get back into this game. Petoskey’s cold start to the quarter definitely helped Marquette, as they were able to cut the deficit to eleven with just under 5:30 remaining in the half. The next few possessions were won by the Northmen, but this time the Redmen were able to answer, thanks to Jonas Bicik’s ten second quarter points. The Northmen were able to hit a late three in the quarter to make things look worse than it was, after two quarters of play, Petoskey led 37-23.

Marquette vs Petoskey
3Q: The Redmen were given the ball to start the quarter, as David Eberhard was sent to the line for two free throws, but missed both. Petoskey came out of the quarter without missing a shot on each of their three possessions. The lead quickly jumped back to fourteen as Jonas Bicik tried getting his team back into the ball game. After seven points from Bicik in a :30 second span, the Northmen scored seven of their own. With just 3:20 remaining in the third quarter, Petoskey led 51-32. The Redmen had no response in the final minutes of the quarter, as the Northmen were able to grow the lead some more. Marquette would need an absolutely perfect fourth quarter to advance to the district final on Friday. After three quarters of play, Petoskey led 60-37.
4Q: Petoskey came out of the break adding two more points, extending their large lead to twenty five. The Redmen were able to get some points on the board early on in the quarter, but time would be the biggest problem in the final minutes. With just under 4:30 remaining in the game, the Redmen trailed by twenty one thanks to a triple from Easton Clements. The substitutes started to get into the ball game with just a few minutes remaining in the ball game, as Marquette had seven seniors ending their high school careers tonight. After first quarter dominance from the Northmen, they were able to close out the game to advance to the district final game on Friday. Unfortunately for the Redmen, their season came to an end after a 67-54 defeat. Thanks for a great season Redmen!
