Marquette Baseball Falls In Home Opener

Marquette, MI – May 2nd, 2022 – The Marquette Redmen varsity baseball team faced defeat in their home opener against the Escanaba Eskymos by a score of 8-6, the first of a double header. The first game was broadcasted on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 -99.9.

Logan Peterson took the mound Monday afternoon as he was successfully able to retire the first batter of the game. Unfortunately, after a single and an error, the Eskymos were able to quickly score a run with an RBI single. After completing the inning, the Redmen secured a tie heading into the 2nd inning off of a RBI double from Easton Miller. The 2nd inning consisted of three quick outs from both teams.

The scoring returned in the 3rd inning, as Escanaba was able to hit four singles, and a double to take a 6-1 lead. Marquette responded with scoring of their own, thanks to a two RBI double from Alex Applecamp. Similar to the second inning, Logan Peterson was able to retire the side preventing the Eskymos to tally on more runs in the 4th. Thanks to Peterson and his excellent inning, the Redmen were able to tie the game at six after an error filled bottom half for the Eskymos. Peterson reached over 100 pitches in the 5th inning after giving up a walk and a single, he was replaced by Easton Miller. Miller struggled as he threw back to back wild pitches that resulted in two Eskymo runs. He was able to shake off the nerves as he closed the game without allowing another run.
With an 8-6 lead in the bottom of the 6th inning, Marquette found themselves with the bases loaded with two outs. Unfortunately, the Redmen stranded three runners and couldn’t complete the comeback. Escanaba defeated Marquette 8-6 in the first game of the double header.
