Redmen Basketball Denies Kingsford Flivvers with 82-58 Victory
- Updated: February 8, 2019

Marquette, MI – February 8, 2019 – The Marquette Redmen Varsity Basketball team rode an offensive wave from the first quarter all the way to an 82-58 victory over the Kingsford Flivvers on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
The first quarter started out with a little back and forth. At one point the Flivvers took the lead with a score of 6-5.
The real story of the quarter, however, is Liam Darr. Darr hit an incredible five triples for a total of 15 points, accounting for exactly half of Marquette’s 30 points at the buzzer.
Kingsford stayed with the Redmen, scoring 17 to Marquette’s 18 points in the second quarter. Such efforts could not make a dent in the massive lead the Redmen achieved in the first.
A Drew Wyble three-pointer gave the Redmen their biggest lead of the half at 44-20 with just a few minutes to go.
Marquette guarded the lead as the seconds ticked down for a score of 48-26 going into the half.
Five triples from the hot-handed Liam Darr of the first quarter turned out to be a very good insurance policy for Marquette. Kingsford again stayed with the Redmen in scoring throughout the second half, actually outscoring the Redmen in the third period.
The Flivvers could not recover, however, and the Redmen stayed well in control as they sailed to their 82-58 victory. Marquette keeps their perfect Great Northern Conference record, the champs improving to 7-0, 13-3 overall.
It’s no surprise Liam Darr led Redmen scoring with 17 points overall. Raffy Millado had 13, Luke Ogea had 12, Drew Wyble 11, Marius Grazulis 7, Collin Hicks and Brendan Kaski had 6 each, and Robert Apple and Ethan Martysz had 5 points each.
The Redmen will be back in action on Tuesday, February 12th against the Ishpeming Hematites on 98.3 WRUP. The pregame show starts at 6:45 pm, tip off is at 7:15 pm.
