Redettes Basketball Falls to Westwood Patriots 45-37
- Updated: February 13, 2019

Ishpeming, MI – February 13th, 2019 – The Marquette Redettes Basketball team finally met-up with the Westwood Patriots after two previously cancelled games due to weather. Calling the contest was the one and only Luke Ghiardi on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9FM and streaming online at FoxSportsMarquette.com/Stream!
It was a quick start to the game for the Marquette Redettes as they took the opening tip. The Patriots played some great defense in the first minutes of the quarter, and that kept the Redettes’ scoring to a minimum.
Marquette was able to pull slightly ahead as the quarter wore on, but Westwood never let up on their pressure. Just before the first buzzer, the Redettes had a small lead, but it was anyone’s game.
First Quarter Score
Marquette Redettes: 10
Westwood Patriots: 8
Westwood broke out late in the second quarter with a 7-0 run at about two minutes to go.
Madelyn Koski drilled three triples over the course of the first half, she and the rest of the Patriots’ offense proved a tough obstacle for the Redettes’ usually impenetrable defense.
Second Quarter Score
Marquette Redettes: 17
Westwood Patriots: 28
Madelyn Koski opened the third quarter with her fourth triple of the night to contribute to a 5-0 run for the Patriots.
Sydney Kivi made a couple of plays to get within 14 points of the Patriots with 45 seconds to go.
Westwood improved to 40-24 just before the buzzer, the Patriots’ defense giving Marquette’s offensive game a run for their money.
Third Quarter Score
Marquette Redettes: 24
Westwood Patriots: 40
An early Avery Ledy triple helped to give the Redettes a little boost at the start of the final quarter. She followed up with another three-pointer in short order to get the Redettes within 13 points of the Patriots.
Aspen Michelin helped get Marquette within single digits with 2:45 to go. Marquette battled the clock as much as the Patriots as the game came to a close.
A late triple from Madison Carter put the Redettes within seven points, but Marquette could not make good on enough offensive opportunities to catch up to the Westwood Patriots.
Final Score
Marquette Redettes: 37
Westwood Patriots: 45
