Redmen Basketball Defeats Westwood Patriots 61-47

Ishpeming, MI – February 4, 2020 – The Marquette Redmen Varsity Basketball team took home a 61-47 victory over the Westwood Patriots tonight on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
The Patriots struck first with an early two-pointer, but Drew Wyble of the Redmen responded with a 4-0 run to give Marquette the 4-2 lead. Kam Karp followed up with a double to make it 6-2 with five minutes to go in the first quarter.
Westwood tied it up at 6-6 in short order. The lead bounced back and forth for a few minutes, but the Patriots took the 15-11 lead into the next quarter.
A 6-0 run for the Redmen started the second quarter as Marquette took the lead at 17-15 within the first three minutes. Karp went for one at the line to convert on an and one opportunity to make it 18-15.
Ty Lotterman went for the layup to go from a 6-0 run to a 9-0 run for the Redmen. The Patriots finally put up an answer to put the score at 20-17, Marquette still out front.
With just over one minute to go, the Patriots were able to tie it up at 20-20. Patriot Zach Carlson put up a double to give Westwood their first lead since the early going in the quarter. They carried a 27-20 lead going into the half.

The Redmen took home the 61-47 victory tonight.
Westwood had an eight-point lead in the early going, the largest lead of the game. Kam Karp cut that lead to six after going two for two at the line. A Lincoln Sager triple slashed the Redmen deficit to three. A John Thomson bucket rounded out a 7-0 run, the Westwood lead cut to just one point in the third quarter at 29-28.
Karp put up a double to retake that lead at 30-29 as the Redmen bench erupted. He followed that up with a steal and a bucket. Lotterman then went for two to round out a now 13-0 run and give the Redmen a five-point lead.
Marquette stayed in control throughout the rest of the period. The Redmen took a 40-34 lead into the fourth quarter.
Westwood got within four points early in the final quarter of play, but the Redmen jumped back out to six with ease. Another Lotterman bucket put the Redmen at 45-37.
The Patriots gave it their best to get within striking distance, but the Redmen stayed in control for the rest of the game. Marquette jumped out to a 12-point lead with just a few minutes to go. The clocked seemed to slow down in the closing minutes of the game, but the Redmen 61-47 victory was never in danger.
