Redmen Basketball Defeats TC West Titans 59-49

Traverse City, MIJanuary 25, 2020 – The Marquette Redmen Varsity Basketball team defeated the Traverse City (TC) West Titans 59-49 this afternoon on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.

The Redmen looked to come out strong in their game against the Titans this afternoon after a slow start yesterday against the Trojans. They achieved their goal as Marquette jumped out to 8-2 early in the opening quarter and did not relinquish control for the rest of the half.

Three Kam Karp triples over the course of the first period helped the Redmen get out to a 18-10 lead as the minutes ticked down in the early going. A Lincoln Sager triple with 15 seconds to go put the score at 21-10 going into the second quarter.

Sager put up another triple at the start of the second to help the Redmen to a 26-15 lead. Marquette stayed in control of the pace as they protected their often double-digit lead. Redmen defense only allowed another 6 points from TC West for the remainder of the period. The score settled at 39-21 before the buzzer, the Redmen nearly doubling up on the Titan score going into the half.

TC West started the second half with a 13-0 run to hack away at their deficit. The Redmen seemed to struggle to find the intensity with which they started the game. With a nearly 20-point lead out of the half, Marquette still clung to a 7-point lead though.

A John Thomson triple helped put the Redmen back into a double-digit lead  as Marquette got their feet under them. They stayed out at 50-36 over TC West going into the final period of play.

The Redmen maintained a 10-point or more lead in the first half of the fourth quarter. The Titans would not go away, however, as they continued to put in the work on their deficit. TC West got within seven points, but the Redmen closed out the game to take home their 59-49 victory.
