Redmen Basketball Burns Maroons with a 75-43 Victory
- Updated: February 7, 2020

Marquette, MI – February 7, 2020 – The Marquette Redmen Varsity Basketball team defeated the Menominee Maroons tonight on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9. The final score was a whopping 75-43.
Marquette needed their victory tonight to keep their quest for an outright GNC title alive. Menominee is a formidable opponent, but their record against the Redmen will be 0-2 on the season with both defeats boasting a gaping deficit.
It was a slow start though, the score knotted at three in the early going of the first period. A Ty Lotterman double put the score at 5-3 to give the Redmen their first lead of the night. Menominee responded quickly to tie it back up, however.
A Kam Karp triple gave the lead right back to the Redmen at 8-5. Later, Lincoln Sager helped Marquette pull away with a six-point lead which kicked off a scoring run to extend the Redmen lead out to 22-11 just before the buzzer.
The first few minutes of the second period saw only two points scored for each team in another slow start to the action. The offensive game got going soon enough for both as a Lotterman rebound and score put the Redmen at 27-13. Menominee responded with a triple of their own. Another Sager bucket put the score at 30-16 to keep the Redmen well in the lead.
Menominee hacked away at their deficit to get within 11 points. Marquette stayed strong and took the 12-point, 34-22 lead going into halftime.
Marquette got down to business in the third much sooner than in previous quarters. A reverse lay-up from Drew Wyble contributed to an early 16-point lead over the Maroons, Menominee struggling to stay viable in the second half.
The Redmen pulled well away from the Maroons, their lead at 31 points with less than two minutes to go. Menominee could not make any headway as the game entered the final quarter of play. The Redmen lead settled at 57-26 at the buzzer.
The fourth quarter showed little promise for the Maroons. It was no question that the Redmen would stay on course toward an outright GNC title with their certain victory tonight. The question was only by how many points would Marquette win the game?
A Justin Jurmu long two-pointer helped put the Redmen at 65-33 with four minutes to go in the contest. Robert Apple checked into the game and almost immediately hit a triple to a chorus of cheers from the student section. He hit another just before the buzzer. Much like the rest of the half, it was the Marquette Redmen show until the bitter end. Tonight’s 75-43 victory improved their season record to 12-3.
The Redmen will be back in action on Tuesday, February 11th against the Gladstone Braves. Tune in to Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 at 6:45 pm for the pregame show, tip off is at 7:15 pm.
