Marquette, MI – February 21st, 2022 – The Marquette Redettes continued the regular season this evening against the Kingsford Flivvers. The game was broadcasted on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 – 99.9.
1Q: The opening tip was won by the Flivvers as they were able to capitalize on their first offensive possession. The Redettes turned the ball over on their first possession as they were starting all five seniors to honor them for senior night. A different starting line up may have thrown off their rhythm in the beginning minutes. With 6:12 remaining in the opening quarter, Ella Jezewski scored Marquette’s first basket. The Flivvers were able to jump out to a 6-2 lead but Marquette quickly caught up to pace to take an 8-6 lead. The Redettes press caused troubles for the Flivvers in the midway parts of the quarter. Lingle and MacPhee checked into the ball game with 3:04 remaining, to form the normal starting lineup. After a great defensive second half of the quarter, Marquette head into the second quarter with a 14 -11 lead.
2Q: The Flivvers began the quarter with the basketball as they were not able to score on their first possession, Marquette also came up short on their first possession. After a Flivver bucket, Ella Jezewski was able to connect on an old fashion three point play to give the Redettes a four point lead. An uneventful few minutes transpired in the midway point of the quarter as Marquette’s lead dwindled down. Maria Millado and Ella Jezewski were then able to get things going late, as they were able
to head into the locker room with a 26 – 23 lead.
3Q: Both teams came out of the locker room flat, as the Redettes weren’t able to score until the 4:15 mark. The Flivvers were able to score right out of the half, but could not score until the 3:20 mark. Marquette was able to outscore the Flivvers at the end of quarter by three to take a 35-29 lead into the final quarter of regulation.
4Q: The Redettes started the fourth quarter hot, as Zoe Smith buried a three pointer and a steal and layup from Millado gave the Redettes an eleven point lead. The Flivvers continued to struggle as they couldn’t score until the 3:45 mark. With the defensive pressure of the Redettes, the Flivvers turned the basketball over too many times to make a comeback. With insurance buckets in the final few minutes of the ball game, the Marquette Redettes defeated the Kingsford Flivvers 44 -35. With the win, the Redettes clinched the GNC Title.
