Redettes Fall to Gremlins, 59-43
- Updated: February 17, 2022

Houghton, MI – February 17th 2022 – The Marquette Redettes looked to even the season series against the Houghton Gremlins Thursday evening. The game was broadcasted on 97.5 GTO.
1Q: The last contest between these two teams came on February 7th, as it was the Gremlins with a 64-48 win over the Redettes. Tonight’s game opened with a winning tip by Marquette, but the first possession was unsuccessful. The Gremlins came the other way and buried a three pointer to get the scoring going. A few empty possessions later set up the Redettes with a triple of their own, as Zoe Smith tied things up. Marquette began to pick it up defensively as they were able to gather a few steals, but only two points were produced from fast breaks. Zoe Smith connected on another triple a few possessions later, as Marquette led 8-3 half way through the opening quarter. With the Gremlins size, Marquette over committed inside leaving the three pointer open, Houghton would bury two from deep to take a one point lead. After a back and forth first quarter, the Gremlins led 14-10.

Redettes Warmup
2Q: The Redettes opened the quarter with three straight points on back to back possessions to cut the deficit to one, but another three pointer from the Gremlins would resume the four point lead. Sienna Lingle had an excellent :30 seconds after checking back into the game, as she tallied a bucket, a steal and an assist to tie the ball game. The Redettes would begin to turn the ball over as they lost several possessions midway through the quarter, thankfully the Gremlins were only able to score three more points. Later in the quarter, Maria Millado took matters into her own hands as she was able to score three straight buckets for the Redettes. After a physical first half, Marquette tied the game to make it a 23-23 ball game.

Redettes Defense
3Q: The Redettes opened the quarter with a missed three pointer from Zoe Smith, as the Gremlins were able to connect inside on their opening possession. The third quarter quickly became fast paced as
both teams would get rebounds and push the floor. This caused some turnovers early and later into the quarter, as the Redettes only scored two buckets in the entire quarter. The Gremlins on the other hand were able to score eighteen third quarter points to take a 41-28 lead into the fourth.
4Q: The Redettes needed a massive comeback to get back into the game, and a three pointer from Maria Millado definitely helped, but the defensive play of the Redettes would also have to improve. The Gremlins were able to score five quick points right out of the break, thanks to Paige Sleeman. Millado continued to get her team back into the game as she scored five more points later in the quarter to cut the deficit to eight. Stella Wickstrom had a quiet game for the Gremlins, but definitely contributed to the later push, she scored back to back buckets to put the game away with around 2:00 remaining. For the second time this month, the Houghton Gremlins defeated the Marquette Redettes by sixteen points.
Final: Marquette 43 Houghton 59
