The Blue Devils opened up the game with a triple to take the early lead. It didn’t take long for the Redettes to catch up and take the lead for themselves after a 6-0 run put them out front at 6-3. SSM did not go away, however, taking the lead once again at 9-8.
The lead went back and forth between squads, almost never more than by one point. A couple of Olivia McMahon buckets finally gave the Redettes a slight buffer, their lead at 14-11 with less than a minute to go. The Blue Devils would not allow a Redettes lead though as Julia Beaumont for SSM put up a last-second triple to tie it up at 14-14 just before the buzzer.
Reegan Ketzenberger sunk a triple to start the second quarter, putting the Redettes back on top at 17-14. A little scoring drought ensued, but Aspen Michelin offered up her own three-pointer in due time to put Marquette at 20-14 over the Blue Devils.
Jordan Scott hit a triple for the Blue Devils to get within three points of the Redettes. Michelin answered with three of her own to put Marquette back out by six.
The Blue Devils went on a 6-0 run late in the quarter to get within three before halftime, the Redettes still out front at 28-25.
Michelin opened up the third quarter with her third triple of the night. Maddie Carter hit a jumper to contribute to a 6-0 run, the score at 34-25 over the Blue Devils.
The Redettes lead by as much at 11 points in a roller coaster of a third quarter, but SSM stayed tough and eventually tied it up at 36-36 with just two minutes to go.
The Blue Devils took the lead for the first time since the first quarter at 44-38 as the Redettes struggled to regain control. The Redettes looked to erase their deficit in the fourth quarter.
Very little seemed to go right at just the wrong time for the Redettes in the fourth quarter. Sault Ste. Marie protected their lead as Marquette struggled to make significant headway against the Blue Devils. Sault Ste. Marie came out the victor in this energetic roller coaster of a game, stopping a Redettes winning streak just short of ten.
