Redettes Basketball Falls 55-46 to Escanaba Eskymos in Season Opener
- Updated: December 3, 2019

Marquette, MI – December 3, 2019 – The Marquette Redettes Varsity Girls Basketball team could not get past the Escanaba Eskymos tonight on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
Marquette came out swinging with an and one opportunity to take an early 3-0 lead. Escanaba responded with a triple to tie it up, and the 2019 Redettes’ basketball season chugged along full steam ahead.
An Aspen Michelin triple brought Marquette back out in the lead at 6-3, but an Esky triple from Taylor Ray following a coast to coast effort from Nicole Kamin put the Eskymos in the lead.
Escanaba pulled further out front at 14-7, but Michelin put up a couple more triples to slash the Redettes’ deficit to 16-13.
The first quarter ticked down with Escanaba protecting their lead at 20-15 over Marquette.

The Redettes put up a great effort, but Escanaba took home the win.
Some early Redettes hustle slashed their deficit to just one point in the second quarter. Maria Millado went one for two at the line to tie it up at 20-20.
A Millado layup put the Redettes out front for the first time since early in the first quarter. Marquette was able to muster a 28-25 lead going into the half.
Escanaba pulled away slightly early in the third quarter with a 31-28 lead. Marquette quickly slashed that to a one-point lead as the Redettes remained close on the heels of the Eskymos at the start of the second half.
Maddie Carter helped the Redettes regain the lead at 36-35 and 30 seconds to go. Escanaba answered right back to regain the lead, however, and Eskymo Taylor Ray drilled three free throws to take back the lead at 40-36 going into the fourth quarter.
Escanaba maintained their lead as the fourth quarter ticked down. Marquette struggled to gain a foothold as the Eskymos pulled away with a 10-point 50-40 lead and less than four minutes to go.
The Redettes just could not bounce back in the final minutes of the game. The Eskymos took home their 55-46 victory, their first since 2012 against the Redettes.
The Redettes will be back in action Friday, December 6th against Brighton in Petoskey. Tune in to 97.5 GTO at 5:00 pm for pregame. Tip off is at 5:30 pm.
