The Marquette Redmen Hockey Team Defeat the Hancock Bulldogs 8-0 on 103.3 WFXD
- Updated: December 14, 2021

Marquette, MI – December 10th, 2021 – The Marquette Redmen defeated the visiting Hancock Bulldogs 8-0 in dominant fashion. Joe Gaffney and John Thompsen had the call live from Marquette on 103.3 WFXD.
1st Period:

Marquette Redmen take the rink to start off the game against the Hancock Bulldogs
The game starts with Marquette winning the face-off. The Redmen showed extreme pressure very early on with shots by Kody Moyer and Drew Dellies. Marquette almost got on the board with a rebound off the goaltender but Caleb Fries could not get a clean hit on the puck. With just under 13 minutes to go in the first period, Marquette’s defense comes up with an interception and has Jacob Garrow down on the breakaway passing the puck to Moyer for a shot and goal and putting Marquette up 1-0. The Redmen showed great skill from the takeaway to the finish for the games first score.
Right after the face-off, Ethan Philips gets called of a tripping penalty and sent to the box. Marquette has been great all season defending their oppositions power plays and tonight was no different. The Hancock Bulldogs could not even muster one shot in that power play as it was the Redmen applying all the pressure. Rylan Ragusett walks the puck in the middle of the defense and has a screamer of a shot only to have it defended greatly by Hancock’s goalie. On Marquette’s next possession, Joe DeMattia gets by a couple of defenders and shoots a floater that the goalkeeper did not even see, putting the Redmen up 2-0. With a few minutes left in the first period, Cole Ranta wins a face-off, with Tony DeMattia shooting the puck form the blue line and making Marquette’s third goal of the night.
The period came to an end with both teams having a player in the penalty box. Only 1 shot on target was awarded to the Hancock Bulldog team as the Marquette Redmen led 3-0.
End of 1st Period: Marquette Redmen 3, Hancock Bulldogs 0
2nd Period:

Redmen celebrate after going up 4-0 against the Bulldogs
Both teams started the second period with 4 players. After the period’s first 40 seconds, the Redmen
were in a power play and they fully took advantage. Garrow gets the puck, shoots a shot from the far post and goes in. Dylan King walks the puck in front of the goaltender and makes his first goal of the season. The power play was big, putting the Redmen up 5-0 and eyeing a possible mercy rule game.
After a failed Bulldog attack, Ethan Phillips receives a pass from Brayden Grange, then goes wide around the net shooting a rocket shot, making Marquette’s 6th goal. Ranta, immediately after the next face-off, gets a foul called for cross-checking with a controversial 5 minute penalty call. Even with the heavy penalty, the bulldogs were not able to do much other than grab a couple of more shots on target with the Redmen’s goalie Wylen Cambensy coming away with the puck each time.

Redmen celebrate late in the game after another goal.
With 1 minute left in the Bulldog power play, Owen Riipi snipes a shot from the blue line, making it 7-0 and Dellies grabbing the assist.
With 2:30 to go in the period and only one goal left for a mercy rule, Riipi shoots another shot, rebounding straight into Moyer’s path. Moyer made quick work in finishing off the shot and giving Marquette an 8-0 lead.
The Redmen fended off the Bulldgos for two minutes to end the game after the second period due to the mercy rule.
End of Game: Marquette Redmen 8, Hancock Bulldogs 0
The Joe Boogren Player of the Game was awarded to Drew Dellies.
Next Game: The Redmen Hockey Team travel to Kingsford to face the Flivvers on Tuesday, December 21st, 2021 at 7:00PM. John Thompsen and Joe Gaffney will have the call live on 103.3 WFXD.
