Redmen Hockey Dominate Kingsford

Kingsford, MIDecember 21st, 2021 – The Marquette Redmen wrapped up the 2021 year with an away game against the Kingsford Flivvers.

Period 1:After some unfortunate technical issues, our broadcasters were able to join the game late in the period. Marquette opened up with dominance as they collected 12 straight shots without allowing any. The Redmen scored an early goal to take the 1-0 lead. The Flivvers kept the game close as minutes later, they tied the game. Marquette was able to score one more goal to end the 1st period with a 2-1 lead.

Period 2: The 2nd period started a little slow compared to the 1st, only a few shots on net from both squads. With around 11 minutes remaining in the period, the game started to heat up again. Redmen Forward Jack Sides buried the 3rd goal of the game for Marquette, and only a few possessions later, Kingsford got one of their own. The Flivvers continued to put the pressure on the Redmen but eventually their tanks would empty. The Redmen went on to finish the period with a 7-2 lead thanks to four goals in the final five minutes. Caleb Fries buried 2, Cole Ranta added one, and Ethan Phillips closed out the scoring for the Redmen.

Period 3: Marquette once again dominated the opening minutes of the final period. No goals were scored, but several shots were fired at the net in a 3 minute sequence. After an uneventful 7 minutes, the Redmen finally got another on the board, Joe DaMattia got his second goal of the game. Marquette was able to coast for the remainder of the game, after outscoring the Flivvers 50-7, they went on to win comfortably by a score of 8-2.

The Marquette Redmen will continue their season after the new year, as they will travel to Painesdale on Tuesday, January 4th to take on the Jeffers Jets. The puck will drop at 6:00 pm as you can hear the broadcast on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9.
