The Redmen took a few minutes to get their feet under them, but once they did they started making things happen. Marquette struck first with a goal from Drew Dellies, with help from Colin Nemacheck and Theo Adams, to give the Redmen an early 1-0 lead over the Flivvers. Tyler Bengtson answered right away, however, with a goal for the Flivvers to tie it up at 1-1 with 10 minutes to go in the period.
The Redmen gifted the Flivvers a power play, but successfully cleared the penalty kill only to retake the lead moments later. Jackson Potulny buried the puck to help the Redmen nose out front at 2-1 with a few minutes left in the period. Theo Adams then turned around and extended the Redmen lead to 3-1 as the first period ended with a nice shot directly after Potulny’s.

The latter half of the second period proved to be as exciting as the first period. A power play goal for the Redmen from Brock Taylor came more than half way through the second period to improve the Marquette lead to 4-1. Joe DeMattia capitalized on the momentum and scored a quick goal for Marquette to put the score at 5-1.
Dylan Baldwin turned right around and scored the third goal of the period for Marquette to make it 6-1, the Flivvers in real trouble in the span of just a few minutes. The Redmen were not done yet, however, as DeMattia got it to Owen Riipi who buried the puck for a 7-1 lead just before the buzzer.
Owen Riipi started things off for the Redmen in the third period with another goal. The Marquette lead improved to 8-1 as Kingsford struggled to weather the storm of goals from the Redmen. Evan Kroll scored a second goal in short order to trigger a mercy end to the game. The final score was 9-1 as the Redmen march on to tonight’s game.
