Redmen Hockey Best Gremlins in Houghton, Final Score 2-0
- Updated: February 18, 2021

Houghton, MI – February 18, 2021 – The Marquette Redmen hockey team traveled to Houghton where they defeated the Gremlins 2-0 tonight on 103 WFXD.
The first period was scoreless as the Redmen took the ice against the Gremlins. Houghton kept Marquette at bay with aggressive play in the Redmen zone. Brennan Hakkola protected the goal, however, staying sharp between the pipes.
Several quality shots on goal made things interesting, including a close call from Owen Riipi in the final minutes of the period, the Redmen looking to strike first. Another good effort from Jackson Potulny in the final 30 seconds of the first period did not find the back of the net, but Marquette looked hungry for their first goal of the night.
Shots on goal were tied up at 8-8 with no penalties as the Redmen hustled into the second period.
The Gremlins were gifted a power play to start off the second period. The Redmen successfully killed the penalty to keep the score at 0-0. Marquette had to contend with an aggressive Houghton team early as both teams vied for the first score of the game.
The Redmen peppered the Gremlin goal later in the period, finding a little get-up-and-go. Marquette killed off another penalty to stave off Houghton with two minutes to go.
Potulny finally found the back of the Houghton net for Marquette with only a few seconds to go in the period. The Redmen nosed forward with a 1-0 lead going into the third.
The Redmen came out of the locker room ready to battle. Jake Garrow wasted no time at the start of the third period when he buried the puck to immediately improve the Redmen to 2-0.
Hakkola came up with a clutch save later in the period to protect the Redmen lead, eventually securing a shutout victory with his performance. The Redmen battled to a confidence-boosting 2-0 win against the undefeated Gremlins team to improve to 3-2 on the season.
Tune in this Saturday, February 20th on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 to catch the Redmen take on the Kingsford Flivvers. Pregame starts at 11:30 AM, the puck drops at 12 PM.
