Marquette’s Redettes Face Major Defeat in Semi-Finals Against Cheboygan Chiefs 12-0
- Updated: May 31, 2022

Marquette
Marquette,MI- May 31, 2022- The Marquette Redettes fought against the Cheboygan Chiefs Tuesday evening in some of the nicest weather Marquette has seen all year. Luke Ghiardi and Tyler Young did the play-by-play in the Sun so that you could hear it on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9!
Lyndsey Lake of Marquette started on the pitcher’s mound, and made quick work of Cheboygan with a triple strikeout. Jordan Haynes followed that with a lead-off single, but before getting a taste of the action, she found herself stranded at third by the end of the inning.
Cheboygan put Marquette in a tailspin during the top of the second inning. Three runners were able to cross home, despite Lyndsey’s effort. She started off the bottom with a walk to first, and Lexi L’Hullier followed her to second. Kaitlyn Penfield began the game for Cheboygan with a lead-off throwing error. Amelia Johnson followed her to base with a walk, and Penfield scored on a passed ball. Sheila Lavine followed and was able to send herself and Amelia home leading to an end of inning score of 3-0.

Cheboygan Batter
In the third inning, Emerson Eustace hit a perfect center-field bunt to second base. Penfield found herself as the first out of the inning, and Amelia Johnson scored a two RBI single from the outfield. Marley Couture batted next, and Amelia Johnson made it home on a stolen base. 5-0
Alaina Saari and her teammates were quickly thrown out by Cheboygan’s defense during the top of the fourth, keeping Marquette at a score of nothing to 5. Cheboygan decided to further widen the gap, with an RBI single from Jordan Ashley. Zoe Chamberlin hit a double, and Libby VanFleet sent them both home. Lindsay Lake swapped with Alaina Saari for pitcher. Kaitlyn Penfield helped send yet another batter home with an RBI double at the bottom of the fourth, Amelia Johnson refused to let it stop there and struck an RBI infield single. Ashley Beaudry stepped in, and was hit in the leg loading bases for Cheboygan. Zoe Chamberlin followed her, ready to bat and scored an RBI double finishing off the fourth. 12-0
The Cheboygan Chief’s made quick work of Marquette in the fifth inning, Halle Haynes, Aila Weycker and Lyndsey Lake were all sent home. Aila Weycker tried to save her team despite the weight of a mercy loss above her shoulders, sending the first batter of the bottom of the fifth home.

Marquette Walks
Libby Van Fleet fouled hard left due to Alaina Saari’s pitches. Courtesy hitter #25, Kayla Draper was sent home after a snap throw and pitch to first.
The Redettes depended on the top of the sixth inning in order to continue the game, but were unable to find solid ground to score causing them to lose the game. Addie Trapani swapped for Jayden Raymond after she was struck out. Jezewski grounded out to short, Raymond followed with a ground to second, and Addie faced fate on her attempt to reach base, ending the game 12-0.
Final Score: 12-0
