Marquette Redmen Girls BBall Takes a Loss to Negaunee Miners (61-72) on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and GTO 99.9

Marquette, Michigan– 02/20/2018– The Marquette Redettes stayed home this Tuesday night to take on the Negaunee Miners. The Redettes came into this game 15-5 while the Miners were 19-0. Brady Guilbault and Jesse Anderson simulcast all of the action on Sunny FM and Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9.
The Redettes won the tip-off to start the game. MacKenzie Karki, Miner, was fouled on her way up on a play and went to the line for two to score the first points in the game. Bridget Pliska scored the first two points for Marquette. Both teams were back and forth with scoring until Negaunee received a couple more free-throws and widened the lead over Marquette. Ellie Hicks scored a three pointer for Marquette to lessen the deficit. Both teams were rolling through their benches and using fast full-court presses. Just as Negaunee was about to have a last shot in the first quarter, Stasha Warchock blocked it. 26-14 was the score at the end of the first. Marquette went into the bonus within the first two minutes of the second quarter sending Avery Ledy to the line for a one on one and she scored two points on that. Avery Ledy rebounded and got the put-back that gave a quick few points to Marquette. Natalie Bartle answered back with her signature floater for the Miners. Negaunee went into the bonus about half way through the second quarter and shortly after that, Marquette went into the double-bonus. Sophia Bartlett, Redmen, tied the game 30-30. Abby Nelson, Clara Johnson, and Natalie Bartle won back the lead over the Redmen. Lynsee Dempsey, Miner, blocked the last shot for Marquette. 38-36 was the score as the Miners led the Redmen at half-time.
Marquette had possession of the ball to start off the third quarter. Stasha Warchock, Redmen, tied up the game with her free-throws. Through out the quarter, the two teams tied the game six times! The Redmen started to double-team Natalie Bartle. 50-50 was the score at the end of three as Aspen Michelin scored her free-throws for Marquette. Natalie Bartle, Miner, scored all three points in her old-fashioned to take the lead back for Negaunee in the beginning of the fourth. Natalie Bartle took over for the Miners in the fourth quarer as she traded shots back and forth with the Redmen. Ally Jacobson scored the last two points of the game with her one on one. 72-61 was the final score of the game as the Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team defeated the Marquette Redmen.

STATS: Leading the Redettes was Avery Ledy with 25 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Sydney Kivi followed after her with 11 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists. Claudia Hale scored 7 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Scoring 3 points was Stasha Warchock (3 rebounds, 1 assist) and Bridget Pliska (1 rebound). Scoring 2 points was Mo Miller (1 assist), Chloe Hale (2 rebounds), and Aspen Michelin (1 rebound, 1 steal). To round off the scoring, Sophia Bartlett scored 1 point.
** The next Redmen game will be Wednesday, February 21st as they travel to Kingsford to take on the Flivvers. Pre-game for that game will be around 7:40pm as the tip-off is at 8pm.
