Marquette Redmen Defeat Midland Dow Chargers 9-0
Midland MI – December 3, 2022 – The Marquette Redmen shut out the Midland Dow Chargers and forced a mercy rule on Saturday afternoon in what ended up being a very one sided game
First period: The Marquette Redmen prepared to take on the former division three champions in midland on Saturday afternoon. the game opening puck drop was won by the Marquette Redmen to start off Saturdays game. The Redmen’s Nash Riipi found their first goal of the afternoon with a 3 on 1 opportunity putting the Redmen up 1-0 over the Chargers. Shortly after the first goal Connor Stade was assisted by Tucker Welch and was able to find the back of the net putting the Redmen up 2-0 halfway through the first. CJ Carter fed a puck up to Jake Garrow who then sent it over to Tucker Welch who was able to put it in and give the Redmen a 3-0 lead. In the later minutes of the third Cj Carter had a big steal sending the puck to Jake Garrow who put it through the five hole giving Marquette a 4-0 lead. Fourteen seconds after that goal Jake Garrow sent a puck over to Nash Riipi who put the puck in, giving him a hat trick and the Redmen a 5-0 lead. The Marquette Redmen got possession of the puck again and Caleb Freeze came up with a beautiful shot and found the back of the net, giving the Redmen their third goal in 21 seconds late in the first. After a very one sided first period the Redmen lead the Chargers 6-0 headed into the first intermission.

Second Period: The Chargers won the opening draw and put it down into Marquette territory to start the second period. Marquette only needs to score two more goals and stop the Chargers from scoring by the end of the second to force a mercy rule. Jake Garrow found his second goal of the afternoon halfway through the second putting Marquette ahead 7-0 over the Chargers. Marquette picked up a power play for a trip on Caleb Freeze giving them an opportunity to score their first power play goal of the season. The Redmen were able to take advantage of the power play with a huge shot from Joe DeMattia giving the team its first power play goal of the season and a 8-0 lead. Shortly after the power play goal Caleb Freeze found the five hole, giving him a hat trick and Marquette a 9-0 lead in the later minutes of the second. The Marquette Redmen forced a mercy rule on the former division three champions in what was a very one sided game.
