Marquette Redettes fall to the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils 39-45

Sault St. Marie, MI – December 6, 2022 – The Marquette Redettes fell to the Sault High Blue Devils Tuesday evening in a very back and fourth action packed game.

First quarter: Meghan Macphee of the Redettes won the opening tip off to start off Tuesday evenings game against the Blue Devils. The Blue devils scored the first point of the game and their season off of a pair of free throw shots. After the free throws, Julia Ott of the Redettes put some points on the board with a nice right hand lay up. The Redettes led the Blue devils halfway through the first 6-5. Both teams defensive efforts have were strong in the first forcing turnovers left and right. A big three pointer from the blue devils at the end of the first gave the blue devils a 12-9 lead over the Redettes headed into the second.

Second quarter: The Marquette Redettes were able to score some points to open the second and put them ahead of the Blue Devils 13-12 in the first thirty seconds of the second period. Siena Lingle picked up a rebound and took off down court with no one to stop her and put in a lay-up extending the Redettes lead momentarily. The Blue Devils got some momentum going and over took the lead halfway through the second leading the Redettes 17-15. The blue devils defense were able to stop the offensive efforts of the Redettes and go on a 6-0 run. Cora Anderson was able to stop the scoring drought for the Redettes by making a pair of free throws. The teams were tied at 20 with two minutes to go as both teams looked for the go ahead points. Claire Erickson drew a foul on a successful lay up that put her team ahead in the later minutes of the second. Meghan Macphee was able to stop a 5-0 run the blue devils were on by putting in a lay up right before the buzzer went off. The Blue Devils led the Redettes 25-22 heading into halftime.

Third quarter: Starting the third period the Redettes were looking to come back and over take the lead, they had a good look at a three but were unable to get it to go. Meghan Macphee was able to put some points on the board as they trailed the blue devils in the early minutes of the third. Siena Lingle dropped a huge three pointer and putting the Redettes ahead after an 8-0 run halfway through the third. After strong defensive efforts on both sides, Claire Erickson was able to put three on the board to shorten the Redettes lead. The Blue Devils were able to regain the lead with 40 seconds left in the third quarter. The Redettes were unable to retake the lead late in the third as hey head into the fourth quarter trailing 34-35.

Fourth quarter: Claire Erickson was fouled early in the fourth and headed to the line were she made one free throw, putting the Devils up by 2. Cora Anderson of the Redettes was able to tie the game up 36-36, keeping the Redettes chances alive. The blue devils were able to find a few points and led the Redettes 39-36 halfway through the fourth. There was a lot of back and fourth action but neither team could get anything to go as the Redettes looked to comeback and overtake the lead.  Mackenzie Bell was able to pick up a rebound and put it in, expanding the Blue Devils lead with less then two minutes to go. The Redettes struggled to get their offensive efforts going in the fourth quarter and were only able to score 5 points, falling to the Blue Devils 45-39.
