The Blue Devils scored the game’s first points on an early triple from Kyler McKenzie, and followed it up with another three-pointer to go up 6-0. Lincoln Sager answered with a three of his own shortly thereafter, and the teams were off and running. McKenzie hit another triple about a minute later, extending Gaylord’s lead to 9-3. Marquette and Gaylord exchanged baskets for the rest of the quarter, but the Blue Devils had the better of the play, and led 20-9 after one.

Gaylord kept their impressive play going in the second quarter, scoring a quick bucket to go up 22-9. Marquette seemed to be forcing shots from distance in the quarter, but not much was falling for the Redmen, be it from the three-point line of anywhere else on the floor. The Blue Devils again outplayed Marquette in the second quarter, and the score was 30-19 Gaylord at the half.
John Thomson and Kameron Karp hit back-to-back threes to open the third quarter, injecting some life into Marquette’s offense and making the score 30-25. Austin Vanderveer put in a layup for Gaylord’s first points of the half, but Sager completed a three point play to continue to chip away at the deficit. Marquette kept their offense rolling, and tied the game several times through the third frame. Heading into the final quarter, Gaylord had a slim 47-46 lead.

The gap was opened up a bit early, as the Blue devils hit a few shots before Marquette could answer. Again though, the Redmen fought back and tied the game on a Lincoln Sager bucket with 2:10 left, and Thompson gave the Redmen their first lead of the game just a few seconds later on a steal-and-score. Gaylord tied the game shortly afterward, and Marquette decided to hold the ball for the last shot of the game. Marquette inbounded the ball with 5.8 seconds to go in regulation, and Kameron Karp hit the buzzer beater to get a stunning 60-57 victory over the Gaylord Blue Devils.
