Gaylord, MI – March 10, 2020 – The Marquette Redettes Varsity Basketball team came out strong in the first half, but the Midland Dow Chargers proved a formidable opponent this evening on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9. The Redettes end their season tonight, falling to the Chargers 63-54.
Aspen Michelin got things started for the Redettes with two points early in the first period. Charger Jada Garner responded with a triple, but Marquette quickly moved back out front. Maddie Carter converted a three-point play to put the score at 7-3 for the Redettes.
Dow reclaimed the lead at 10-9 with less than three minutes to go. Maria Millado went two for two at the line to take back the lead for the Redettes at 11-10. Averie Kelly put up a layup to make it 13-10 with a minute to go. Millado followed up with a double to make it 15-10, but Midland Dow slashed it to 15-14 before the buzzer.

Abby Rey sunk a triple to start things off in the second period, reclaiming the lead once again for the Chargers. A Sofia van den Ende layup tied things back up, but the Chargers responded. Midland Dow pulled away slightly, but another Carter three-point play put the Redettes back within three points, the score 25-22.
Midland Dow again pulled away slightly, but a Kelly and then a Millado double put the Redettes back within two. Millado again followed up with another double to tie it all up at 28-28. The Chargers looked like they were going to take a thin lead into the half, but Maddie Carter put up two just before the buzzer to tie it up at 32-32.
Dow applied the pressure to start the third quarter putting up a 5-0 run. A Carter double got the Redettes back within three, but Dow went on another scoring run to protect their widening lead. The Redettes struggled to regain their footing as their offensive efforts dropped off slightly.
Maria Millado converted a three-point play to get the Redettes within eight. The Chargers would still moved back out front with a double-digit lead. A Millado layup, however, would put the Redettes back within eight points going into the fourth quarter.
Midland Dow protected their double-digit lead early in the fourth. The Chargers opened up a 15-point, 63-48 lead as a worn out Marquette squad struggled to respond to Midland Dow pressure. The Redettes hacked away at their deficit to get within nine points, but the Chargers will move on to the finals with their 63-54 victory.
