Marquette Redmen Basketball Walk Over Gladstone Braves; 84-54

Marquette, MIDecember 17th, 2019 – The Marquette Redmen Boys Basketball team hosted the Gladstone Braves Tuesday night. The Redmen returned home to host their first game of the year after being crowned champions of the Petoskey Invitational Tournament, Marquette was 2-0 in the tournament and looked to push it to three. The Redmen came out victorious, 84-54.

The Redment got out as hot as you can be. Cam Karp and Ty Lotterman made two easy shots in the frist minute and after a Gladstone charge, John Thompson was able to knock down a three-pointer to give Marquette a 9-0 lead.

The first Gladstone bucket came just over two minutes into the game as Jarret St. John nailed a long ball of his own to stop the bleeding, but the Redmen remained in control, making their next three shots to extend their lead to 12. Rane Castor was able to get the next two baskets for the Braves, cutting the lead to 10 with just about two minutes to go in the first with Marquette up, 17-7. The two sides would trade from long range before the end of the quarter, Marquette led, 23-10.

Justin Jurmu got the Redmen going to start the second, he went on a solo, 5-0, run in the first minute to extend the lead to 18. From their, Marquette wouldn’t look back. Caster again made some shots to slow up the Redmen, but Ty Lotterman would make back-to-back layups, giving him ten in the half and giving Marquette a 31-16 advantage, but the lead would bonce back to 19 after Karp knocked down some long shots and John Thompson put another three-pointers of his own to give Marquette a 44-23 lead at half.

Cam Karp lead Marquette with 13, Rane Caster had seven at the half for Gladstone.

The second half was a continuation of the first half as Marquette’s lead would reach 28 and the Redmen continued to create chaos for the Braves. Marquette seemingly couldn’t miss as every Gladstone bucket was met by two baskets for the Redmen.

The early fourth saw Marquette take a 78-43 lead before both sides put in their backups with about four minutes to go in the fourth. Robert Apple came off the bench and drained two three-pointers for the Redmen, 84-51 Marquette with four minutes to goin the final frame and the score would go almost unchanged, final score, Marquette 84, Gladstone 54.

Leading scorers for Marquette, Karp and Thompson both had 18, Ty Lotterman lead all scorers with 21.
