Marquette Redettes Basketball Win 35-32 Against Negaunee Miners

Marquette, MI – December 17, 2019 – The Marquette Redettes Varsity Basketball team shocked the Negaunee Miners on their home court with a 35-32 victory on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
It was a tight first quarter as Marquette started out with a 5-2 lead in the opening moments of the game. Negaunee pulled out in front soon at 6-5.
An Aspen Michelin triple put the Redettes back out front at 8-6, but Chloe Norman of Negaunee put up her own three to take back the lead for the Miners. Negaunee stayed out front at 11-8 going into the second quarter.
Marquette worked to tie it up at 11-11 as the Miners struggled with a scoring drought. The Redettes played strong defense to shut out Negaunee in the first half of the quarter. The Redettes edged out front at 13-11 with three minutes to go.
Alyssa Hill of Negaunee single-handedly took care of the Miners’ scoring drought with five points and a reclaiming of the lead at 16-13. A Chloe Norman triple put Negaunee at 19-13 with 30 seconds to go.
Aspen Michelin sunk a free throw to bring the score to 19-14 going into the half to stay within five points of the Miners after a late surge before the buzzer.
Michelin helped inject some life into Marquette at the top of the third. She got the steal and then a bucket to get the Redettes within striking distance of Negaunee.
Marquette still trailed by three as Negaunee stayed out front at 23-20 in the final moments of the third quarter. Clarissa Remillard went one for two at the line, however, and Averie Kelly snagged the rebound to put it up and in and tie the game at 23-23. Michelin then went to the line for two to put the Redettes back in the lead at 25-23 just before the buzzer.
Marquette worked to protect their lead in the final quarter as they pulled into the lead by six at 31-25. Chloe Norman put up another three to slash the Redettes’ lead to three. Maria Millado stayed aggressive and collected a couple of chances at the line. She went one for two to put Marquette at 32-28.
Millado went two for two at the line a little later to seal the deal for the Redettes in the final seconds of the game. A strong defensive stand helped Marquette take home their 35-32 victory.
The Redettes will be back on court Friday, January 3rd against Sault Ste Marie on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9. Pregame starts at 6:30 pm, tip off is at 7:00 pm.
