Marquette Redmen Basketball Uses Big Second Quarter to Upend Green Bay East 65-46

Marquette, MI – February 15, 2020 – The Marquette Redmen Basketball team was tied with Green Bay East after one quarter, but rolled with a big second quarter to a 65-46 win over the Red Devils. Jacob Ogea had the call live from Marquette Senior High School on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
1st Half:

Marquette outscored Green Bay East 24-7 in the second quarter to run away with the game by 19 points.
Green Bay East came to play early in its trip to Marquette, a basket from Jalen Flowers on the first possession of the game gave the Red Devils a 2-0 lead. Marquette went on a run to take a 7-4 lead after a John Thompson bucket and 3-pointer from Drew Wyble. Green Bay East responded with baskets from Bill Felix and Thaddeus Burns to take back the lead, 8-7. It continued to be a game of runs, with the Redmen taking a 12-8 lead after a 3-point shot from Lincoln Sager. Felix had an impressive game for the Red Devils in the first quarter, ending it with four straight points including a buzzer beating layup to tie the game. At the end of the first, Marquette and Green Bay East were locked at 12-12.

Final Score: Marquette 65, Green Bay East 46
The Redmen were in a close game through the first quarter, but once its leader Kameron Karp got in going, they ran away with it. He was held scoreless in the first quarter, but scored 11 of his team’s 17 in the second. David Eberhard got the scoring starting for both squads in the second, giving Marquette a 14-12 lead. Flowers made a 3-point shot on the next possession to give the Red Devils back the lead, but that was the last time they would have it. Karp and Ty Lotterman were on fire for the Redmen offensively, the next 12 Marquette points were scored by one of them. Karp gave his team a 17-15 lead after a deep 3-pointer, and the Redmen were up 26-17 in the blink of an eye. The run continued for the Redmen, and it this game snowballed in the second quarter for Green Bay East. Sager ended the half by scoring five consecutive points for Marquette, and they led by a commanding score of 36-19 at halftime.

2nd Half:
The Red Devils were much more competitive in the third quarter, but were doomed by its lackluster second quarter. Both teams came out of the half trading baskets, and Marquette led 42-24 with five minutes left in the third quarter. Karp scored once again to put Marquette in front by 20 points, but not before an answer from Flowers to cut the lead back to 18 on the next possession. The Red Devils’ defense improved over the course of the quarter, but Eberhard’s basket kept the lead at 20. Green Bay East was trying to cut the deficit, but Marquette hung on to a big lead for the entirety of the third. After three quarters, the Redmen led 51-33.

Marquette defeated Green Bay East.
Three of the four quarters in this game were even between the two squads, but the second quarter was the difference. With five minutes left, Marquette led 57-40, the Red Devils simply couldn’t get back into the game. Flowers and Felix tried to keep Green Bay East in it, they both finished the game with a team-high 15 points. He was outdueled by Karp however, who led the Redmen to a victory with his game-high of 22 points. Each teams’ substitutes entered the game in the final minutes, and that would do it. After a big second quarter, the Redmen held off every comeback attempt from Green Bay East, and won comfortably 65-46. Marquette improved to 15-3 on the season after a balanced scoring effort.
