Houghton, Michigan – February 20th, 2020 – The Marquette Redettes defeated the Houghton Gremlins Thursday night from their home turf in Houghton by a final 70-41. With a very warm weekend ahead Spring was in sight from Houghton High School.
2-0 Marquette lead over the Gremlins in the first few minutes of the game. For the first time Thursday we saw Emily Svoke of the Gremlins out on the court. Clock wasn’t running as Regan Ketzenberger was on the court for the Redettes. Foul called against Emily Svoke. 7-0 lead for the Redettes coming up on 4 minutes into the first quarter. Big three for Josie Connors with the first bucket for the Gremlins. 9-3 lead for the Marquette Redettes. 15-6 Marquette doubled up their lead over Houghton. Marquette on top at the end of the first quarter 18-8.
20-10 Marquette on top with 6.5 minutes left in the first half of the game. Nice pass down low to Sofia van den Ende as the Redettes lead the Gremlins 29-12. Paige DeForge got back into the game for the Gremlins in the second quarter. 34-14 Marquette with the lead. Second quarter ends with Marquette 38-16 over the Houghton Gremlins.
46-18 Marquette leads 2 minutes into the second half of the game. Nice jump by Averie Kelly of the Redettes! The junior, Emily Svoke, put it up and through for the Gremlins. A foul was down low for Averie Kelly of the Redettes. 56-21 with only minutes left in the third quarter. Natalie Tripp got into the game for the Redettes. 56-26 wraps up the third quarter from Houghton High School with Redettes over the Gremlins.
Good to see Maddie Carter to put the dribble in her left hand for the Redettes. Averie Kelly picked up her fifth foul of the game. 62-33 Marquette leads Houghton with just minutes left in the game. 70-37 Redettes on top with 2 minutes left in the quarter. Foul called on Kaleah Puskala of the Redettes. Nice move by Paige DeForge of the Gremlins. The Marquette Redettes defeat the Houghton Gremlins 70-41 from Houghton.
