Redettes Basketball Cruise to 52-32 Victory Against Kingsford Flivvers
- Updated: February 14, 2020

Marquette, MI – February 14, 2020 – The Marquette Redettes Varsity Basketball team crushed the Kingsford Flivvers with a 52-32 Great Northern Conference victory on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
Kingsford had the opening triple to go 3-0 as Marquette struggled to get on the board in the early going. The Flivvers’ Maggie Strehlow then went two for two at the line to make it 5-0 over the Redettes. It didn’t take long for Aspen Michelin to go for two buckets in a row to make it 5-4 behind the Flivvers.
Sofia van den Ende hustled to the basket for an up and in to give the Redettes their first lead of the game. The Flivvers responded quickly to regain the lead, but Marquette was able to tie it back up.
Maria Millado put up a double to give the Redettes the 12-10 lead. Rayna Warchock followed that up with a triple which gave way to a Michelin triple to round out an 8-0 run for Marquette, and an 18-10 lead at the buzzer.
The pace did not slow down as Millado opened up the second period with an and one opportunity to give the Redettes a 21-10 lead.
Another Michelin triple put the Redettes at 23-11 as the Flivvers struggled to regain their footing, their rhythm nowhere to be found since the end of the first period. A scoring drought for Kingsford meant that the 10-1 run the Redettes put up with just a few minutes to go put Marquette at 28-11.
The Flivvers just could not get anything going offensively against the Redettes who were firing on all cylinders. The score settled at 30-13 going into the half.
It was a slow and sloppy start to the second half as just one bucket from each team was all the action in the early going, the score 32-15.
Millado cut the scoring drought with a double. A Warchock triple followed closely behind as the Redettes started to come alive. Some classic tough-as-nails Marquette defense helped contain some of the Flivvers’ top players as the relatively low-scoring third period ticked down.
The Redettes’ led by 19 points going into the final quarter of regulation, the score 38-19.
Marquette dominated the early going of the fourth period. Millado put up a double to round out an 8-2 run for the Redettes. Michelin got two points of her own and the Redettes improved to 48-21 over Kingsford.
Kingsford went on a 8-0 run to improve to 50-29 behind the Redettes. With a little over a minute to go, however, the Marquette victory was inevitable. Kaleah Puskala put up a layup to put an exclamation point on the win tonight.
A late triple from the Flivvers at the buzzer put the final score at 52-32, still twenty points behind the Redettes in the end. The Redettes’ victory puts them at 11-6 on the season and 5-2 in the Great Northern Conference.
The Redettes take on the Houghton Gremlins on Thursday, February 20th on 97.5 GTO. Tune in at 6:45 pm for the pregame show, the game starts at 7:15 pm.
