Marquette Redmen Basketball Defeats Alpena 64-57, Moves On to Second Round of District Playoffs
- Updated: March 5, 2018

Gaylord, MI – March 5, 2018 – The Marquette Redmen basketball team defeated the Alpena Wildcats 64-57 on Monday evening in a game that was broadcast live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 and online at foxsportsmarquette.com. Marquette, who finished their season with a resounding 50-24 victory over the Houghton Gremlins, began their postseason with a win in the district playoffs over Alpena.
The Wildcats looked like they might be in pole position early, as they quickly jumped out to a 4-2 lead on Marquette. An 8-0 run by the Redmen, however, flipped the script on Alpena, and after one quarter, the Redmen led 13-6. Marquette managed to keep their offensive production going in the second quarter as well, and at halftime, Marquette held a 26-18 lead.
The two teams played evenly in the third quarter, each scoring 14 points in the penultimate frame. Going into the fourth quarter, Marquette led Alpena 40-32. The Redmen scored 7 quick points to start the final stanza, increasing their lead to a game-high 15, and from there the game was never really in doubt. In the end, the Marquette Redmen came away with a 64-57 victory.
Leading the Redmen offensively was Raffi Milado, who scored 22 points on the night. Not far behind was Marius Grazulis, with 17 points.
The Marquette Redmen will next be in action on Wednesday, March 7, when they take on the Gaylord Blue Devils in a contest that will again be played in Gaylord. That game will begin at 6:00 P.M., and you can listen to the action live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 and online at foxsportsmarquette.com.
