Marquette Redettes Basketball Defeats Petoskey 52-21, Wins Fourth Straight District Title
- Updated: March 2, 2018

Marquette, MI – March 2, 2018 – The Marquette Redettes basketball team defeated the Petoskey Northmen 52-21 to capture their fourth straight district title on Friday night in a game that was broadcast live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 and online at foxsportsmarquette.com. The Redettes, who defeated the Traverse City Central Trojans 60-56 in the district semi-final, were able to top Petoskey and move on to the regional tournament.
The Redettes started the game with a 5-0 run, but Petoskey was not deterred and was able to hold their own against Marquette’s powerful offense. After one quarter the game was tied 11-11, and it seemed that neither of the two teams would be able to find an edge over the other. The second quarter, however, saw the Redettes take and hold a lead over the Northmen, at one point leading by ten points. Petoskey cut the lead to six before the half, and at halftime, Marquette held a 22-16 lead.
The Redettes blew the game wide open in the second half, vastly outplaying the Northmen in the third quarter. Marquette outscored Petoskey 14-3 in the third frame, and continued their dominating ways in the fourth quarter. The Redettes went on an 11-0 run to begin the final stanza, virtually putting the game in the bag then and there. Petoskey did manage to get on the board in the fourth quarter, but only to the tune of two points. In the end, the Marquette Redettes came out on top by a score of 52-21 and earned their fourth straight district title.
Leading the Redettes in scoring was Avery Ledy, who put up 17 points on the night.
The Marquette Redettes will next take the court on Tuesday, March 6, when they take on either Saginaw Heritage or Midland-Dow. That game will be played in Gaylord, and you can listen to it live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 or online at foxsportsmarquette.com.
