Marquette Redettes Win 52-27 over Milan Lady Reds in Day 1 Petoskey Invitational

Petosky, MI – December 3rd, 2021 – The Marquette Redettes competed in the first day of the Petoskey Invitational against the Milan Lady Reds this afternoon. The game was broadcasted on 97.5 GTO.

1Q: Redette Forward Maria Millado won the opening tip that set up two free throws for Guard Zoe Smith. The first was able to fall, but the second shot was negated by a lane violation. Smith and Millado continued to dominate the early and midway points of the quarter, scoring 10 combined points. The Lady Reds were able to stay in the ball game after a few quick lay-ups. The end of the quarter came to a slow halt, as neither team scored any points in the remaining 90 seconds. The Redettes lead 12-9.

2Q: After some missed opportunities from both teams, the Redettes finally found some points as Millado added 4 to take the 7 point lead. Lady Red Guard Allie Millina quickly took 4 back to cut the Lady Red deficit to 3. Turnovers and missed field goals littered the second half of the quarter for both teams, but the Redettes were able to hang onto the lead heading into the locker room. Marquette 22 Lady Reds 15.

3Q: A quick start for both leading scorers of the first half, as Millado added 2 quick buckets for the Redettes, as Millina started the quarter with a layup for the Lady Reds. Milan continued to fight back in the quarter but the Redettes answered on every possession. Halfway through the quarter, Marquette led 30-21. After a few late quarter buckets from the Redettes, it was a 34-21 lead heading into the 4th quarter.

4Q: With their backs against the wall, Milan struggled to begin the quarter, the Redettes forced some turnovers and added onto their lead. Millado continued to showcase her skills as she added some buckets and defensive play. The quarter was all Marquette, as the Redettes went on to win their 2nd straight game to open the season. They were led by Maria Millado, who finished with 18 points and secured Player of the Game.
