Marquette Redettes Girls Basketball defeat Petoskey Northmen 63-30

Petoskey, MIDecember 7, 2019 – The Marquette Redettes improved to 1-2 on the year with a 63- 30 win over the Petoskey Northmen in the Petoskey Invitational tournament on Saturday afternoon.  The Redettes, coming off a loss to Brighton the previous night, got into the win column for the first time of the 2019-2020 season against Petoskey.

The Marquette Redettes won the opening tip and didn’t wast any time, as Rayna Warchok hit a three-pointer just seconds into the game to open the scoring.  Petoskey answered quickly, as Hayley Flynn banked in a triple to tie the game up, and both teams were off and running.  The Redettes went on a 11-0 run midway through the quarter, and their offensive pressure allowed them to carry a 22-10 lead into the second quarter.

The second frame started much in the same way that the first finished: with Marquette controlling the play offensively and Petoskey trying to keep up.  A few Redettes, notably Aspen Michelin and Rayna Warchok, proved especially difficult to cover for the defense of the Northmen.  Marquette extended their lead to 42-14, ensuring that they were in the driver’s seat for the remainder of the contest.
