Marquette Redettes Basketball Drops to 0-2 After 45-34 Loss Against Brighton

Marquette, MI12/06/2019 – The Marquette Redettes Varsity Girls Basketball team fell to 0-2 againtst the Brighton Bulldogs tonight on 97.5 GTO.

The first quarter saw Marquette take a quick lead, but the Redettes quickly got in foul trouble. The Bulldogs got to the line five times for 10 total free throws. Brighton was only able to convert five of the 10 attempts and could only find one field goal in the first. Brighton pressured Marquette up and down the court which created multiple turnovers for Marqutte. The Redettes lead 10-7 at the end of the first.

Brighton was able to get into the bonus only 42 seconds into the second after a quick Marquette foul. Redette Seniors, Maddie Carter, Aspen Micheling and Reegan Ketzenberger all found themselves in trouble with a quick two fouls each early in the second.

Brighton got their first lead of the game with 58 seconds left in the half, but it was quickly erased as Rayne Warchock nailed her second three of the quarter to retake a 21-20 before halftime. Sophia Dziekan lead Brighton with eight. Warchock paced Marquette with eight of her own, Maria Millado chipped in five.

The second half was all Brighton. The Bulldogs took over in the third and didn’t look back. Foul trouble continued for the Redettes and the Brighton pressure continued to give the Redettes fits. Brighton outscore Marquette 17-10 in the third.

The fourth quarter saw Brighton finally put the game away as Marquette was only able to score three points. Dziekan matched her first half total of eight in the second half, scoring eight more on her way to scoring a game-high, 16 points for the Bulldogs. For the Redettes, Millado finished with eight, Rayna Warchock would lead all Marquette scorers with 10. Marquette Redettes fall to 0-2 on the season, but look to get their first win on Saturday.
