Marquette Redettes Basketball Defeats Traverse City Central 60-56, Moves On to District Final

The Redettes and the Trojans warming up for the game

Marquette, MIFebruary 28, 2018 – The Marquette Redettes basketball team opened their postseason with a 60-56 victory over the Traverse City Central Trojans on Wednesday night in a game that was broadcast live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 and online at foxsportsmarquette.com.  The Redettes, who ended the regular season with a 14-6 record, started the District 12 tournament off on the right foot against the Trojans.

The Marquette Redettes wasted no time in beginning their postseason scoring, putting points on the board less than five seconds after the opening tip.  Traverse City, not to be outdone, came right back and put up points of their own, and the two teams went back and forth throughout the first half.  After one quarter, Traverse City Central led 13-11, but the Redettes came back and took a 27-21 lead into the halftime break.

The Redettes came out with authority in the second half, again scoring first after the resumption of play.  Marquette continued to outplay the Trojans offensively, and extended their lead to 44-35 after three quarters of the game had been completed.  Traverse City Central mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, but they fell just short of achieving victory, and the Marquette Redettes walked away with the 60-56 win.

Leading the Redettes in scoring was Sydney Kivi with 16 points, while for Traverse City Central it was Margot Woughter, who scored a whopping 34 points on the night.

The Marquette Redettes will next take the court on Friday, where they will take on either the Petoskey Northmen or the Gaylord Blue Devils in the District 12 final.  That game will begin at 7:00 P.M., and you can listen to all the action on Fox sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 or online at foxsportsmarquette.com.
