Marquette Redettes Basketball Defeats Charlevoix 42-29
- Updated: December 29, 2022

Marquette, MI – December 29, 2022 – The Marquette Redettes improved to 4-5 on the season on Thursday when they defeated the Charlevoix Rayders 42-29 at Barb Crill Gymnasium. The Redettes, coming off of a win over Boyne City the previous night, completed the two-day sweep with the win over the Rayders.
The game began slowly, with both Marquette and Charlevoix missing opportunities to score early. The Rayders got on the board first from a free throw by Abby Wright, and a few moments later Cora Anderson answered with one of her own, but the score remained 1-1 for the opening two minutes of the game. The Redettes did eventually get their offense rolling, and after the first eight minutes of the game, they led by eight points.
End of First Quarter: Marquette 13, Charlevoix 5

The Rayders were able to take advantage of a few Marquette miscues in the second quarter, cutting into the deficit early, but the Redettes never let Charlevoix get too much momentum. Marquette was able to extend their lead in the later stages of the second, and led by Meghan MacPhee’s 8 first half points, the Redettes held a 25-12 advantage at the half.
Halftime: Marquette 25, Charlevoix 12
Charlevoix again started fast in the third quarter, cutting Marquette’s lead to six in the first few minutes. Abby Wright scored nine points in the quarter for the Rayders to lead their counterattack, but much like the second frame, Marquette was able to regain control and bring their lead back to double digits before the break.
End of Third Quarter: Marquette 35, Charlevoix 23
Marquette, true to form for the day, started slowly in the final quarter. Charlevoix was able to chip away at the semi-large lead held by the hosts, but with limited time remaining in the game, there was only so much they were able to do. Marquette’s defense proved adequate down the stretch, and the Redettes walked away with a 42-29 win.
Final Score: Marquette 42, Charlevoix 29
The Marquette Redettes will next be in action on Thursday, January 5th, when they host the Kingsford Flivvers. Luke Ghiardi will be there to bring you all the action on 97.5 GTO and online at gto.fm.
