Marquette Girls Basketball Gets Playoff Win Vs Alpena Wildcats, 56-31

Alpena, MIMarch 4th, 2020 – The Marquette Redettes Varsity Basketball team traveled below the bridge on Wednesday to continue their postseason run, they took on Alpena in the district semifinal, winner would host the district final. Luke Ghiardi was on the call on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9. The Redettes would win this one 56-31.

FIRST HALF-

The game would have a slow start for both squads, it would be an early 3-2 lead for the Wildcats of Alpena, Kaleah Puskala would sink a nice shot at the six minute mark of the quarter to give the Redettes their first lead of the game, 4-3.

Maria Millado would be the next player on the score board after nailing a deep three-pointer, that would put the Redettes up four with the 7-3 advantage with three minutes to go in the first frame. Aspen Michelin would be the Redettes on the board after a Alpena layup, Michelin’s shot would also be a three-pointer and Marquette was up double, 10-5, one minute to go in the quarter.

A strong push by Marquette would give them a 14-5 advantage after one.

Aspen Michelin would start the quarter with another three-pointer, that would put her in double digits with seven minutes to go in the half. Puskala and Millado would follow up with makes of their own after Alpena responded with a three-pointer of their own, 23-8 Redettes with 5:30 to go.

The game would slow down again, but Marquette would keep ahold of their strong play, with two minutes in the half, it would be 27-12, Redettes lead.

Marquette would take a 33-16 lead into the locker room at half.

SECOND HALF-

Pace-of-play would really slow down to start the second half, with three minutes played, the scoring was 3-2 in favor of Marquette.  Jumping a head to three minutes left in the third, it would be 38-22 as Alpena tried to claw back into this one, but the Redettes played a complete game Wednesday night. Kaleah Puskala would drain a deep three-pointer to give Marquette their biggest lead of the game so far, they would go up 43-22, one minute to play in the third.  After three, Marquette would head into the fourth leading by the score of 46-24.

The final quarter would be more of the same, a hot start by both sides in the first minute, but Marquette would maintain their 22 point lead, 50-28, seven minutes to play. With 3:30 to play, Alpena would send in the reserves to finish out the game as Marquette was still holding onto a 22 point lead, 52-30.
