Girls Basketball from Houghton – Marquette Redettes (55) VS Houghton Gremlins (61) on Good Time Oldies 97.5

Houghton, Michigan – February 15th, 2018 – The Gremlins and the Redettes met in Houghton Thursday night for a match-up that’s been the talk of the town all week! The Redettes came in on a 14-3 record while the Gremlins came in on a 11-6 record. After so much adrenaline and anticipation all week the Gremlins came out on top by a final 61-55.

Both teams tied up 4-4 in the first quarter. The Gremlins led 12-4 with a healthy lead over the Redettes. Houghton back up by 8 points. 3 minutes in the first quarter Houghton leads Marquette 14-6. Houghton was really attacking Marquette in the first quarter with a lead of 16-8. 18-10 wrapping up the first quarter of play with the Gremlins having the advantage.

Marquette cut the lead by 6 points. 18-12 the Gremlins led the Redettes. Avery Ledy checked into the game immediately to get the free throw to go. Houghton continued to lead Marquette 22-13. Approaching the end of the first half Houghton had the biggest lead of the game, 35-23. After 2 quarters of play Houghton had the lead 35-25.

The Pomp’s Tire halftime show from the U.P. Propane Broadcast booth ran down the full stats in the first half and covered what the Redettes needed to do to achieve victory over the Gremlins in the second half of play.

Houghton controlled most of the game in the first half. Could the Redettes turn that around in the second half? Marquette was within single digits behind Houghton 39-31 in the third quarter. 49-33 with the Gremlins on fire and leading the Redettes.

Marquette got the ball to begin the fourth quarter. 6:27 on the clock Houghton continues a strong lead 52-35 over Marquette. Aspen Michelin with a great defensive play for the Redettes! Houghton leads Marquette 58-53 with 17 seconds on the clock. Ellie Hicks and Claudia Hale checked into the game with 15 seconds left for the Redettes. Time runs out and the Gremlins defeat the Redettes 61-55 from Houghton High School.
