Marquette, MIFebruary 15, 2018 – The Marquette Redmen fell to the Houghton Gremlins 2-1 on Thursday night, in a game that was broadcast live on 103 FXD and online at wfxd.com.  The Redmen, who dropped their last game 5-2 against Hancock, lost their second game in a row against the Gremlins.

It was the Houghton Gremlins that opened the game’s scoring, taking a 1-0 lead six minutes into the opening period.  The Redmen answered just under six minutes later, when Sean O’Connor put the puck past Houghton goaltender Will Stier and tied the game.  There was no further scoring for the remainder of the first period, and after one, the teams were tied at one goal apiece.

The Gremlins scored just nine seconds into the second period when Dawson McKay beat Marquette goalie Dylan Sibilsky to retake the lead.  The teams played toe-to-to for the rest of the period, but despite each team having scoring opportunities neither found the net.  After two periods, the score stood at 2-1 in favor of Houghton.

The third period, as evenly and competitively as it was played, failed to deliver a goal for the Redmen.  Houghton played well, and although they also failed to score in the final frame, the Houghton Gremlins came out the victors by a score of 2-1.

The Marquette Redmen will next take the ice on Tuesday, February 20, when they head to Negaunee to take on their bitter rivals, the Miners.  That game will begin at 7:00 P.M., and you can catch all the action on 103 FXD and online at wfxd.com.
